Published for Members of the Seascape Sports Club • SEPTEMBER 2018 Kokkinakis Grabs Singles & Doubles Titles
Australian tennis talent Thanasi Kokkinakis, who was ranked as high as 69 in the world in 2015 and upset Roger Federer in the Miami Masters 1000 Tournament earlier this year, showed why he is a genuine threat to break into the top 20, assuming he stays healthy, in the years to come.
Thanasi, who is 22 years old, was one of 14 players in the main draw who are 22 and under. Once again the Nordic Naturals Challenger presented by Santa Cruz County Bank was host to many of the world’s
younger generation of players—many of whom we will see playing in the Grand Slams on television in the future.
Kokkinakis became the fifth player to win both the singles and doubles titles in the same year since the Tournament’s inception in 1987! The others were Alex O’Brien w/Paul Annacone (1992), Michael Hill w/Scott Humphries (1999), Bob Bryan w/Mike Bryan (2000) and Chris Guccione w/Carsten Ball (2009).

Before and during the Challenger, there are so many things to get right and do well. Thanks to all the Sponsors and Spectators, but a special, GIANT thanks to all our Volunteers. We would not have been able to hold this Tournament for 31 years without you.
Our Third Annual Pink Day Charity Event was the best ever! The laughter and good spirit surrounding this event was amazing. The Club was awash in Pink through- out Semi-Finals Saturday and, while we do not have a final total yet, we raised over $20,000 for Women CARE and Jacob’s Heart.
